When I decided to become a Key West Wedding Photographer, I knew there would be obstacles. Family photos, ceremonies, beach weddings and much more is what makes up the job description of a wedding photographer. I may travel all over the country for weddings, but I chose to base myself out of Key West for a number of things. . Key West is a paradise for weddings. The colors of the waters, the tropical greens, and the weather. It’s what draws people to the island chain of the Florida Keys. For many years Key West has been one of the top Destination Wedding locations in the country, and we plan to stay there!
You never think you will have to worry about mother nature really setting her foot down. Except this September, she set more than her foot down. She freight-trained through the Florida Keys in the form of a Category 4 hurricane on Sept 10, 2017. Parts of the island chain were spared, other parts were not. In Key West we were lucky, and we “dodged a bullet” as many will say for years to come. Did I ever expect that to happen? No! Was I prepared? Yes
In the days after the storm the phone calls started coming in from couples worried about their dates. I spoke to each one of them, gave them options, and prepared to move many weddings around. You are not only the wedding photographer, but an essential part of their day. You communicate with them not only as their wedding photographer, but also as their friend. I spoke to Katie & Matt a few weeks after, and they let me know they were going to keep the date. Thus becoming my first wedding post-Irma. We spent many days strategizing, creating options, and prepared to make their day seem like nothing happened a month prior. We did have to move the ceremony location, but it worked out perfectly! We had blue skies, great weather, and everything happened as planned!
Katie & Matt were perfect. They were calm and relaxed. Matt gave us some great reactions to the first look. He even bust out some dance moves with his mother! Katie went with a great color scheme. The reception you could tell she put a lot of time into, and the team at Simply You Weddings executed that vision! I would like to say thank you to both of them. Thank you for being such a big part in helping many of us get back to normal. This wedding will always be a big one for me, and again I thank you for allowing my team to be a part of your day. It was a great day to get back to being a Key West Wedding Photographer.
