HOW TO HAVE NO PHONES DURING YOUR WEDDING CEREMONY IN ASHEVILLE, NC

Hey there, bride-to-be or groom-to-be! Let’s face it, we’re all pretty much attached to our phones these days, myself included. But when it comes to your Asheville wedding day, wouldn’t it be great if everyone was truly present in the moment with you? Well, I’ve got some helpful tips on how you can kindly ask your guests to put their phones down and fully enjoy your special day. Trust me, it’ll be a blast and totally worth it!

Start by planting this seed early: let your guests know that you’re taking a break from technology on your special day. Yup, that’s right – no phones, no screens, just good ol’ fashioned human connection with your closest friends and family. Trust me, it’ll be worth it.

USE THE POWER OF THE INTERNET aka YOUR WEDDING WEBSITE

Invitations are pretty limited in terms of space. But don’t sweat it, because your wedding website is the perfect place to go into more detail! And speaking of details, if you’re in the midst of planning your big day, I highly recommend adding a little message like this to your website:

“Hey there, friends and fam! We are beyond thrilled to celebrate this special occasion with all of you. We kindly ask that you keep your phones tucked away (or even better, in your car) so we can soak up every moment together. Let’s make the most of this unforgettable day, surrounded by the people we love most.”

SIGNS, SIGNS, EVERYWHERE THERE'S SIGNS

Let’s face it – your wedding guests can’t resist their phones. Even though you reminded them on the invitation and your website to leave their gadgets at home, they’ll probably forget once they get there. But fear not! You can put up some signs at the entrance to remind them to keep their phones tucked away. Sure, not everyone will listen, but hey, anything’s worth a shot, right? Thats why you ask the officiant to make a statement pre-ceremony, and if that doesnt work, Ill stand in front of their phones. LOL

Let’s keep our special day distraction-free!  My friend Kayla does amazing signage.  You can find her at Blue Thistle Studio

PUTTING YOUR PHONE AWAY MEANS PUTTING IT AWAY

Unplugged wedding ceremonies area all the rage these days! It’s pretty simple: just ditch your gadgets during the ceremony. Yup, you heard it right! Your phone and tablet (and any other gadget you have) stay out of the picture for a day. Your wedding officiant will simply let your guests know to put their devices on silent and keep them out of sight during the ceremony. Of course, this means no selfies or snaps during your big moment, but don’t worry. You’ll have an amazing photographer to capture the memories for you.  ME!

NO CELL SERVICE, NO WI-FI, NO PROBLEM

Lets talk about a wedding I photographed where our cell phones had zero bars!

It was at Camp Highlander, near Asheville, NC. And get this – the WIFI was down that day too! Absolutely no cell service. It was like being transported back to the 80s! But you know what? It was awesome. Why? Because everyone had no choice but to talk to each other. And the dance party? It was off the chain. Nobody was glued to their phones – they were all on the dance floor until the wee hours of the morning. And you know what? Many other venues in Western NC are like this too, and they’re always my favorite places to shoot. Actually quite a few wedding venues in Asheville, North Carolina have tough cell service areas, so embrace the 1 bar and ditch the phone.  I mean the scenery of Asheville is enough to make you through your phone away!
