Weddings at the Ridge Asheville | Jordan and Chris' Fall wedding

What are the things you look for when searching for mountain wedding venues in Asheville, North Carolina? Rolling hills, spectacular view, outdoor ceremony with a chateau for a reception venue? These are some of the natural amenities that you will find at The Ridge wedding venue in Marshall, North Carolina. Located just 15 minutes from downtown Asheville. The Ridge offers breathtaking views for any event or wedding day.

Why knowing your wedding couples is important.

Jordan and Chris needed a photography service for their asheville wedding that fit them. They didn’t want imagery that looked like every other wedding. They wanted imagery that would capture their special day elegance, but also the stunning views of the Ridge wedding venue, and still showing it in a fun and creative way. They decided to come up to Asheville for their engagement photos, which gave us a chance to get to know each other. We hiked around, talked about the big day, and then and scored Cali style mexican tacos afterwards. I would tell you where, but that would spoil the fun of going on a nature tour with tacos with me. This allowed me to learn the details of their wedding, but hearing it from them in a genuine way. This allowed me to know the events of the wedding, the important moments, and what mattered to them.

Getting ready at The Ridge

One of the great things that The Ridge offers, is their getting ready service. You get to use the house that is on property to get ready. This offers you the best views from The Ridge. Its great for getting group photos with breathtaking views behind you. If you plan to do a first look, you can get a lot of couples photos out of the way before the ceremony this way too. The outdoor ceremony location on the hill overlooks the Blue Ridge mountains. You get stunning views in all of your backgrounds, and during the fall its even more of a spectacular view.

Drinks, Food, Dancing at The Ridge

The Ridge falls into that perfect venue category because of what all it offers. Wedding ceremonies outdoors, onsite catering but can hire outside catering, indoor reception venue, outdoor ceremony and reception locations, spectacular views. All of this located just steps away from the outdoor ceremony location. A chateau designed by a European architect, which just screams elegance in the North Carolina Mountains. Weddings that take place at The Ridge are always elegant events. Wine, Cakes, drinks, cocktails all can be had on the patio with the natural beauty of the ridge and residence all around. The scenery is sometimes the star of the show at the Ridge.

Jordan and Chris's wedding ceremony and reception party at The Ridge

Jordan and Chris had one of those wedding days that keeps you on your toes. You always want your best day to not have a cloud in the sky, all the guests on their best behavior, so then the wedding and reception will be an event all your guests talk about for years. With how the details of the day were unfolding, you might not think their day was going to fall into this.

When we arrived at the venue, it was cloudy. The wind was whipping around, and it just didn’t have the light you wanted for the scenery to pop! Fall was on its last shows of color. When the wedding party started arriving at the outdoor ceremony venue, the skies started dancing. First there was this exceptional light that popped when Jordan walked down the aisle with her father. The pictures that came from this part of the day reflected the emotions. The light, the tears, the eye contact.

We headed over to the reception venue after family photos, and the introductions of the wedding guests and bridal party took place. A small mishap of the smoke machine gave us the second opportunity later in the night for some stunning portraits. At sunset we headed over to the middle ridge of the property. This gives you a stunning backdrop that you can use as a background, gives you a long view of the property and residence, while being whisked away on a golf cart by the ridge staff. Thankfully they provide this service, which speeds things up. It helps me achieve images that I imagine, and gets you the complete site experience.

With the rain coming down we brought out the umbrellas and did some creating. The close up wedding portrait. The wall hanger portrait that shows the property in all of its stunning glory. The up close and personal that highlights the bride and groom.

The reception kicked off with some speeches, some roasting, toasting and laughter. This set the stage for the events that were to unfold on the dance floor during the wedding reception. Some details will be withheld potentially due to a few alcoholic beverages that were enjoyed by guests.

Documentary Photographer in North Carolina

When you’re planning your wedding, one of the most important decisions you’ll make is who to hire as your photographer.

If you’re looking for someone who can capture the spirit of your day, then a documentary photographer (hey, that’s me!) is there to capture the entire feeling of the wedding day.

While of course there are some posed photos (because there’s no way I’m not doing some killer portraits with that view) the focus is on you and your family and all the love and emotion of the day.
