Just west of Ft Myers off the coast is one of the prettiest little islands off West Florida’s gulf coast, Captiva Island.
Pam and Kevin chose this place because they loved the quiet, intimate feel of the island, and of ‘Tween Waters Island Resort and Spa. Sitting between Captiva and Sanibel, this little piece of paradise is nestled between the Gulf of Mexico and Pine Island Sound and is a spectacular place to get married.
THE WEDDING
Pam and Kevin kept their wedding small and intimate, bringing together all of their favorite people for a Florida destination wedding. I can’t tell you how much I loved Kevin’s bright blue suit; it just rocked in the wedding portraits. We kept it simple and easy, just like they wanted, with a few great shots and then on some family beach portraits and the Ketubah signing.
One of the things I like to talk to my clients about before the wedding is how the family photos are going to go down. The clients who hire me are definitely more interested in the candid, more reportage part of my work, but that doesn’t mean I don’t do family photos. I just do them in a more relaxed and casual way, and I do them quickly.
Take a look at these beach portraits of the family. Wouldn’t you rather have a memory like this on your wall then a stiff, posed photo of everyone standing in line? This is just one of the things we go over before the wedding, and why it’s important to hire a professional who has your best interests in mind when it comes to your wedding photos.
THE CEREMONY
It was important to Pam and Kevin to have photos that not only captured the scenery but really incorporated the essence of the moment and the storytelling aspect of the day. Little did we know there would be quite a story to tell.
The ceremony took place at sunset on the beach, and we took advantage of the crazy beautiful skies at sunset to get some portraits with the whole gang after the ceremony. You can’t tell it from these photos, but a storm was brewing out in the gulf, we lucked out on the timing as the entire reception had to be moved inside to a tented area when it hit just after the first dance
THE RECEPTION
You have to be flexible when planning a wedding outside in South Florida! Kudos goes to the staff at ‘Tween Waters for moving the party efficiently! It sure didn’t stop the party, Pam and Kevin just rolled with it, got raised up during the Hora and just generally raised the roof the rest of the night.
I can’t wait to get back to Captiva! Are you planning a wedding there? I’d love to talk to you about some great places on the island for wedding photography.
