Intimate Wedding Portraits at Fort Zachary Taylor in Key West, Florida

I never really sit down and go through portrait sessions for the blog.  I classify myself as a Florida Keys wedding photographer, Im based in Key West, but I do things differently.  I like to document the day as it unfolds.  Yes I get the bride and groom to talk to each other.  This is still on the uposed mentality, with those conversations leading to real actions.  This session was different.  Watching these two was just a lot of fun.

Dongyu and Hao were already married, but came to Key West on their honeymoon from Ohio.  They went the simple route of a courthouse ceremony, but wanted to take an hour out of their trip to have some portraits created.  They told me what they liked, what they had seen in Key West so far.  We spent some time in Truman Annex, which was close to their hotel.  The lushness of the area provided the backgrounds that they wanted.  We finished the session up at Fort Zachary Taylor for sunset.  The park is always a favorite of engaged and married couples.

The challenge is to make the park not look like every single other session.  We were greeted by a cloudy and stormy sunset.  The wind was challenging but we were able to find some space in the park to have fun with her veil.  It’s not my normal reportage wedding photography, but it felt good to play with artificial lighting to create what you see before you.  Its also a great session to debut my new editing style on.  Hope you enjoy!
