Mysha and Evan's wedding on Shark Key in the Florida Keys

Mysha and Evan are from Key West and they decided to have their wedding at Mysha’s uncles’ home on secluded Shark Key.  Having a home-based wedding has more layers than you might imagine, so I always recommend that you hire a good wedding planner to help you navigate.  They chose Jennifer and the team from Simply You Weddings; they have over 25 years of expertise in with Florida Keys weddings, highly recommended!

We started the day before with a gorgeous sunset cruise with about 25 close friends and family members, and the vibe was perfect. This is the part I love about getting to know my couples, being able to hang out with them on a boat with all the excitement of the wedding in the air. The weather was perfect, and the sunset did not disappoint, so we were able to grab a few casual portraits too

There’s something really cool about home weddings. They have a more relaxed and chill feeling, I think, because people are in familiar spots. Even the family dogs got in on the celebration, and you know I think every photo is better when there is a dog in it.

I love doing getting ready photos in homes because there’s just a lot of opportunities for interesting photos using architecture and light in nook and crannies of the home and outside on the property, and what an amazing place to get married. The guests loved the intimate atmosphere, and as corny as it sounds, you could feel the love in the air.

The chuppah installation in the hut where there did the ceremony was this insane combination of driftwood, botanicals, and flowers that was absolutely killer. The entire location was killer, to be honest…banyan trees, the water, and the palm trees just set everything off perfectly.

It was crazy windy on the day, so we had to get a little creative with where we took photos, so Mysha’s veil didn’t send her soaring out over the sea! We found some sheltered areas and worked quickly, and everyone (including the dogs) were good sports about it.

The tent proved the perfect shelter from the wind as we moved into it for some great, heartfelt speeches, and the coolest sushi boat I have ever seen where everyone signed the sail!  I loved all the little touches they included in their wedding to make it their own!

Thanks, Mysha and Evan (and Uncle Mike!), for making me feel so welcome at your wedding celebration here in Key West. Mazel Tov!
