Hey there! Last time, we chatted about whether or not an engagement shoot was a good fit for you. Today, let’s dive into what you can expect from an engagement session. Feeling a little anxious? It’s totally normal – most people do! But don’t worry, knowing what to expect will help you feel prepared and confident for the shoot.
While every photographer’s process may vary a bit, here’s a sneak peek into what our engagement sessions typically look like.
First things first, let’s talk about the type of shoot you’re interested in and explore location options. My goal is to make this experience as enjoyable and laid-back as possible for you both.
To achieve that, we’ll incorporate an activity that you both love doing – skiing/snowboarding, camping/hiking, visiting your favorite Asheville brewery, or catching a Carolina Panthers game – whatever floats your boat!
Why? Because ultimately, you’ll feel more comfortable and at ease when you’re in your element, doing something you’re passionate about. And that’s when the magic happens. By capturing those candid, natural moments, we’ll create stunning photos that truly reflect your unique personalities and love for one another.
Choosing what to wear for your photoshoot can seem like a daunting task, but it doesn’t have to be! Here are some tips and guidelines to help make the process a little easier:
The most important factor when picking an outfit for your photoshoot is choosing something that makes you feel comfortable. Relaxed couples make for the best photos, so it’s important to wear something that doesn’t make you feel self-conscious or uncomfortable.
While comfort is the most important factor, there are a few other guidelines that can help you pick the perfect outfit. Here are some concrete tips:
However, remember that these are just guidelines and don’t be afraid to break them if you have a favorite outfit that doesn’t quite fit the “rules.”
Keep in mind the activity you’ll be doing during the photoshoot. If you’ll be kayaking, make sure you’re okay with wearing a lifejacket and helmet. If you’ll be hiking, wear proper footwear. And if you’re going to a brewery, don’t worry about driving – you have the photographer as your designated driver.
By following these tips and guidelines and considering your comfort and the activity, you’ll be sure to choose the perfect outfit for your photoshoot.
I’m stoked to work with you on our shoot! I want to make sure everything goes smoothly and we’re both relaxed throughout the process. Here’s what you can expect:
Before we start shooting, I’ll scope out the location, get a feel for the lighting and figure out the best angles. If we’re shooting somewhere like a distillery, I’ve already cleared it with the owners. For parks and other locations that require permits, I’ve got that taken care of too.
I’ve asked you to arrive 30 minutes early so we can hang out and chat before getting started. No need to worry about jumping right into the first shot as soon as you arrive. We’ll ease into the shoot and if you’re up for it, we can even grab a drink or two to calm the nerves.
We won’t be putting a time limit on the shoot, so there’s no need to feel rushed or overwhelmed. Let’s take our time and make sure we capture the best shots possible. If we’re at a brewery, we can sit down and have a beer together (they have NA beers too!). If we’re on the ski mountain, we can do a run without the camera, or two! Side hits are always fun for style points too!
In short, the goal is to have a fun, laid-back shoot where we both feel comfortable and at ease. Can’t wait to get started!
Two weeks after the shoot, I’ll post a sneak peek on my blog. This will showcase 10-15 of my favorite photos from our session, with a little write-up to go with it. Then, a few weeks after that, I’ll share even more on Facebook and Instagram!
But that’s not all – in just 8 weeks, you’ll receive a complete gallery of high-res images! This gallery is password-protected and will have around 50-100 final images for you to download directly from my website.
From there, you can order prints or create “save the date” cards, whatever your heart desires. I can’t wait for you to see these beautiful images and relive the magic of our session together.
